Join January Walks 2013

Ludlow 21 Walk on New Year's Day

Les Lumsdon be leading a short bus walk, about 3 miles at most, on New Year's Day (January 1st 2013) and you are welcome to join us. The walk involves one climb, mainly on tracks and with only one or two stiles. Calling in at the Charlton Arms, Ludford Bridge, on the way back!

Start Point: Be outside Assembly Rooms, Ludlow at 1100 for the 1105 bus to Hereford (Number 492); ask for a single to Overton (£1.30 or use pass). Ten minute bus ride, hour and a half walk back. Boots or wellies plus outdoor clothing required as it will be wet.

Rail Ramble on Wednesday 16th with Rail Rambles


Rail  Rambles was the brainchild of the late Alan Howard, a formidable supporter of rights of way in Shropshire, and  has been going strong since the late 1980s (see www.railrambles.com for details and full programme). It is organised by volunteers with the support by Arriva Trains Wales and Ramblers Cymru. This 6 mile circular from Ludlow takes a section of the Mortimer Trail; there are some steady climbs but the pace will be leisurely. Stout footwear and outdoor clothing essential. The walk will be led by John Newnham and Les Lumsdon.

Start Point: Depart Shrewsbury 0940 for direct train to Ludlow or meet at Ludlow Station (if coming up from South Wales calling at Hereford (0954) and Leominster (1007). Back into Ludlow for return train at 1419 or south at 1406 and 1520.

Clehonger to Hereford



A five mile easy walk from Clehonger through Belmont and along the riverside with chats on landscape and history of the area. Organised by Herefordshire Ramblers as part of their six monthly programme (see www.herefordshireramblers.org.uk) this bus walk will be led by Les Lumsdon.

Start Point: Depart Hereford Railway Station on the 39A bus to Hay-on-Wye at 1300 (bus also stops at Country Bus Station, Maylords, and Broad Street) for a 15 minute bus ride to Clehonger returning on foot to town via Belmont and the riverside path to the Old Bridge. Easy walking with some stiles. Back by 1530. Outdoor clothing and stout footwear a must!
